In this diploma thesis, the load-bearing behaviour of piles is simulated numerically, and the results are compared with real static pile load tests. The data of the pile load tests originate fromthe research project “Unteres Hausfeld” (FPUH), in which various deep foundation elements, including bored piles, were constructed and tested in typical Viennese subsoil. Two of these piletests, one in the Quaternary and the other in the Miocene layers, are used for the creation of two separate models and their test evaluation results are compared with the modeling results. For this purpose, two-dimensional, axisymmetric finite element models are created using Plaxis2D software. The Hardening Soil model with small-strain stiffness and interface elements are used. The parameters for the soil and pile are determined from laboratory tests, literature and empirical values. For the interpretation and comparison of the results, the load-displacement curves of the testpiles are compared with those of the models. Furthermore, the axial force curves are compared and the processes of pile-soil interaction taking place in the soil discussed. These include the volumetric strains of the dilatant Quaternary layers and the failure mechanism of the Miocenelayers represented by plastic stress points. The comparison of the model results with those of the experiments shows that the load-displacement curves and longitudinal force progression of the pile tested in the Miocene can be reproduced very well with the numerical model. In contrast, the load-bearing behaviour of the pile tested in the Quaternary layers differs significantly from the model calculatoins. Thus, the test pile achieves much higher resistance values than the modeled pile. The thesis concludes with parameter and sensitivity studies that examine the influence of various soil and pile parameters on the load-bearing behavior of piles.
