The injection of auxiliary reducing agents (ARAs) into the raceway zone of a blast furnace can contribute to a reduction of the ironmaking process's environmental impact and costs (partial replacement of metallurgical coke). Detailed knowledge about the conversion behavior of ARAs is necessary to increase the efficiency of their injection. A novel entrained flow reactor capable of reproducing the blast furnace raceway zone’s conditions is used to investigate single ARA types and blends. The experimental results are subsequently used to identify conversion rates, e.g., by analyzing the burnout ratio to comprehensively evaluate the injection suitability of the tested ARAs.
