Weissbacher, M. (2020). Implementation of radio localization using RSS on a software defined radio [Diploma Thesis, Technische Universität Wien]. reposiTUm. https://doi.org/10.34726/hss.2022.101843
Indoor localization is a challenging issue in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). Localization can be acquired either by measuring time of flight (TOF), angle of arrival (AoA) or received signal strength (RSS). RSS localization is influenced by shadowing, reflections and dispersion, however it is the most cost efficient method and therefore analyzed here. To study the physical effects influencing the quality of localization based on RSS a test setup is built and the captured data analyzed. To further increase relevance of the work both directional and omnidirectional antennas are used, and the difference between them analyzed. During the work a previously overlooked systematic error in RSS localization was found and systematically analyzed to find its origin.
