Analyse von PAK in Aerosolproben mittels GC-MS - Methodenvalidierung und Anwendung

Abstract

Polyzyklische aromatische Kohlenwasserstoffe (PAK) sind eine für Mensch und Umwelt besorgniserregende Stoffgruppe. Viele PAK sind bioakkumulierend, persistent und gleichzeitig toxisch für Menschen und Organismen. Besonders Benzo(a)pyren (BaP) gilt als stark krebserregend. PAK entsteht bei der unvollständigen Verbrennung von organischem Material, wie zum Beispiel von Holz, Kohle, Öl oder auch anderen Brennstoffen. Es sind über 250 PAK bekannt, sie treten immer als Gemisch auf. Bei der Luftgütemessung wird zurzeit BaP als Leitparameter für die gesamte PAK-Belastung bestimmt.Im Zuge dieser Diplomarbeit wurde eine Messmethode erstellt und validiert, mit der es nicht nur möglich ist Benzo(a)pyren zu bestimmen, sondern auch 17 weitere PAK, sowie 1,3,5-Triphenylbenzol in einer Messung zu quantifizieren. Die analytische Methode wird in der Folge für die Analyse von Aerosolproben verwendet. Dabei ist zu beachten, dass die Filterprobenahme einige der in der Analysenmethode erfassten PAK aufgrund ihrer Flüchtigkeit nicht vollständig erfassen kann. Durch Messung der PM10 Monatsproben des Jahres 2021 von unterschiedlichen Luftgütemessstationen in Niederosterreich konnten verschiedene zeitliche Zusammenhänge von einzelnen PAK ermittelt werden. Durch Messung von Monatsproben konnte ein deutlicher Anstieg der PAK-Immissionen in den Wintermonaten festgestellt werden. Dieser Jahresgang lasst sich auf den Betrieb vieler feststoffbefeuerter Heizungen während der Heizperiode zurückführen. Die gemessenen Konzentrationen an Benzo(a)pyren der niederösterreichischen Stationen 2021 liegen in Jahresmittel zwischen 0,18 und 0,43 ng/m3. Damit liegen sie in der unteren Hälfte der österreichischen Messtationen. Im Vergleich zum Rest Europas liegt Osterreich mit einem Median von 0,42 ng/m3 an 17. Stelle.Obwohl neben Benzo(a)pyren 17 weitere PAK und 1,3,5-Triphenylbenzol bestimmt wurden, zeigen die Auswertungen der Toxizitatsäquivalente, dass Benzo(a)pyren mit 47 bis 55 % im Winter und 46 bis 78 % im Sommer, den größten Einfluss auf die Gesamttoxizität besitzt. Von den weiteren PAK zeigte Dibenz(a,e)pyren mit durchschnittlich 24 % im Sommer und 30 % im Winter den zweit höchsten Einfluss auf die Gesamttoxizität.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a group of substances that are concerning for humans and the environment. Many PAHs are bioaccumulative, persistent, and at the same time toxic to humans and organisms. Particularly, benzo(a)pyrene (BaP) is considered highly carcinogenic. PAHs are produced during the incomplete combustion of organic material, such as wood, coal, oil, or other fossil fuels. More than 250 PAHs are known, and they always appear as mixtures. Currently, BaP is used as the key parameter to assess the overall PAH contamination in air quality measurements. As part of this thesis, a measurement method was developed and validated that allows not only the detection of benzo(a)pyrene but also the quantification of 17 other PAHs, as well as 1,3,5-triphenylbenzene, in a single measurement. This analytical method is applied to analyze aerosol samples. It should be noted that the filter sampling method cannot completely capture some of the PAHs included in the analytical method due to their volatility. By measuring the monthlyPM10 samples from various air quality monitoring stations in Lower Austria in 2021, different correlations of individual PAHs were identified.The measurement of monthly samples revealed a significant increase in PAH emissions during the winter months. This seasonal trend can be attributed to the operation of many solid-fuel heating systems during the heating period. The measured concentrations of benzo(a)pyrene at the Lower Austrian stations in 2021 ranged from an annual average of 0.18 to 0.43 ng/m3, placing them in the lower half of Austrian monitoring stations. Compared to the rest of Europe,Austria ranks 17th with a median of 0.42 ng/m3. Although 17 additional PAHs and 1,3,5-triphenylbenzene were determined alongside benzo(a)pyrene, the toxicity equivalent evaluations shows that benzo(a)pyrene, with 47 to 55 % in winter and 46 to 78 % in summer, has the greatest influence on overall toxicity. Among theother PAHs, dibenz(a,e)pyrene showed the second highest influence on overall toxicity, with an average of 24 % in summer and 30 % in winter.
