Abstract:

This thesis deals with the revitalization of the abandoned industrial area Gredelj in Zagreb. The optimal integration of the newly created district into the existing city is a central focus of this development. The Gredelj area is one of many brownfield areas along the railwaytracks that bisect the city. On the one hand, the idea of urbanizationof the area, which had previously been skipped in urbanplanning, awoke through Croatia‘s accession to the EU and theassociated migration to Zagreb. On the other hand, the consequencesof the earthquake on March 22, 2020 were also decisive for this thought. As part of the work, the city of Zagreb is first examined according to historical and urban planning aspects. Subsequently, the industrial area is analyzed according to its development and its condition. Furthermore, solutions for removing barriers arebeing sought, and the new district will be gently integrated intothe existing building. The industrial halls, which are worth preserving, will be preserved and brought to life with new functions. The railway tracks disappear, the new place retains its identity, isurbanized and develops into a new lively center.
