Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) is a technique that uses globally distributed radio telescopes to measure the electromagnetic field strengths of natural radio signals from cosmic sources. The filtered, downconverted, and digitized representation of these measurements provided by each radio telescope is referred to as the raw data signal. The raw data signal represents the output of the VLBI observation process and constitutes the initial data stage for subsequent data processing. This work deals with the modeling, simulation, electronic (e-)transfer and processing of the VLBI raw data signal, resulting in the development of a novel simulation software and the installation of high-performance computing infrastructure, referred to as the correlator, at the Vienna Scientific Cluster (VSC-4). The focus is on the simulation and processing of the raw data signal observed by the new and powerful VLBI Global Observing System (VGOS), which is characterized by enormously high recording rates (up to 8 Gbps) and unprecedented broadband observations (2-14 GHz).
