Abstract:
The evaluation of new technologies in networks requires the use of reliable simulation tools. As the complexity of the network increases, so does the complexity of the simulation tool. This paper presents an easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI) for the reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) capable Vienna 5G System-Level Simulator developed within the scope of the European Meta Wireless project. The simulation tool evaluates the performance gains achieved by deploying RIS in an urban scenario with blocked line of sight (LOS) connections. This paper shows that the network throughput can be enhanced through the deployment of RISs that increase the received power at user equipment in low-coverage areas reducing the outage from 61% outage to 19%.
