Abstract:
In this thesis we discuss the concept of hypocoercivity for linear evolution equations onHilbert spaces with accretive operators. We generalize characterizations of hypocoercivitygiven for the finite dimensional case to infinite dimensional spaces. Most prominently, wediscuss the connection between the hypocoercivity index of an operator and short timeestimates of the solution of the evolution equations corresponding to the operator. Weapply our results to a slightly modified version of the Lorentz kinetic equation.
