A semantic approach for integrating constrained MQTT devices into smart local energy communities

Abstract

In dieser Diplomarbeit wird ein Gateway vorgestellt, welches die Interoperabilitätskonzepte ähnlich zu Sparkplug implementiert. Dieses Gateway agiert im Kontext von smarten Energiegemeinschaften und berücksichtigt die dort herrschenden Limitierungen. Es wurde während der Entwicklung besonders darauf geachtet, dass sogenannte „beschränkte Geräte“ (constrained devices) mit dem Gateway funktionieren. Für die Ermittlung der technischen Anforderungen wurde die IEC 62559-2 Use Case Methode angewandt. Die Gateway-Lösung stützt sich auf semantische Technologien des Web of Things und funktioniert nahtlos mit der FIWARE Plattform. Das Gateway schafft eine einheitliche MQTT-Topic Struktur und kann simple Transformationen der Nutzdaten durchführen. Zu diesem Zweck wurden zwei MQTT-Topic Strukturen umgesetzt: Erstens für den FIWARE IoT Agenten und zweitens eine Adaption der Sparkplug-MQTT-Topic Struktur. Überdies wurde eine Zustandsverwaltung anhand von sogenannten Todes- und Geburtszertifikaten realisiert. Als zentrale Komponente der Lösung steht eine semantische Gerätebeschreibung, aus der sich die wichtigsten Konfigurationen automatisch ableiten lassen.

In this diploma thesis, a gateway is introduced, which implements interoperability concepts similarly to Spargplug. This gateway operates within the context of Smart Energy Communities, taking into account the limitations inherent to this specific setting. During development, extra care was taken so that the gateway supports constrained devices. To extract the technical requirements, the IEC 62559-2 use case methodology was used. The proposed solution leverages semantic technologies from the Web of Things and can be seamlessly integrated into the FIWARE platform. The gateway creates a unified MQTT topic structure and can perform simple payload transformations. This is demonstrated on two MQTT topic structures: the topic structure of the FIWARE IoT Agent and the topic structure adapted from Sparkplug. Moreover, state management was implemented through so-called death and birth certificates. Semantic device descriptions are the key component of the proposed solution, as all essential configurations are automatically derived from them.
