Entlang der Gleise, am Ufer der Stadt : Transformation des Industrieareals der Lübecker Maschinenbau Gesellschaft im Kontext der Festen Fehmarnbeltquerung

Abstract

Im städtebaulichen Spannungsfeld Lübeck-Nordwest liegt das ehemalige Hafengelände der Lübecker Maschinenbaugesellschaft, ein historisch gewachsener Industrie- und Infrastrukturbereich im Übergang zwischen Stadt, Hafen und Siedlungsraum. Aktuelle Untersuchungen verfolgen die Transformation der Flächen der öffentlichen Hand vom abgeschlossenen Industriegebiet hin zu einem durchlässigen, urban nutzbaren Stadtraum. Die Diplomarbeit knüpft an diese Entwicklung an und erweitert den Betrachtungsraum auf angrenzende Brachflächen einer vergangenen Industrie. Leerstehende Werfthallen, Kaianlagen, Bahngleise und Verwaltungsgebäude bilden dabei einen vielschichtigen Bestand, der sowohl Potenziale für neue Formen von Produktion und alltägliche Nutzungen als auch für ökologische Aneignungsprozesse aufweist. Zugleich liegt das Areal in der Pufferzone des UNESCO-Weltkulturerbes und ist mit teils denkmalgeschützten Bauten ein bedeutender Zeitzeuge der Lübecker Stadt- und Industriegeschichte.Mit der geplanten Fertigstellung der Festen Fehmarnbeltquerung wird ein zentraler Abschnitt des transeuropäischen Verkehrsnetzes geschlossen, dessen Auswirkungen weit über die Verkehrsinfrastruktur hinausreichen. Der Ausbau der Gleisanlagen verändert nicht nur den Natur- und Siedlungsraum, sondern auch die wirtschaftliche Rolle des Hafens. Vor dem Hintergrund eines wachsenden schienengebundenen Güter- und Personenverkehrs sowie anhaltenden Stadtwachstums untersucht die Arbeit die Potenziale des Hafenareals als Transformationsraum. Ziel ist es, Produktions-, Logistik- und Stadträume neu zu ordnen und bislang monofunktionale Strukturen durch Funktionsüberlagerung zu öffnen. Die zusätzliche Infrastruktur wird dabei nicht als Barriere, sondern als strukturierendes Element verstanden, das neue Verknüpfungen ermöglicht. Der Entwurf sucht eine urbane Alternative zum reinen Gewerbe- und Logistikstandort, in der Stadt, Produktion, Mobilität und Landschaft in ein neues räumliches Verhältnis gesetzt werden.

The former port area of the Lübeck Maschinenbaugesellschaft, a historically grown industrial and infrastructure area in transition between the city, port and residential area, is located in the urban development conflict zone of Lübeck-Nordwest. Current studies are tracking the transformation of public land from a closed industrial area to a permeable, urban space that can be used for urban purposes. This thesis ties in with this development and expands the scope of consideration to include adjacent brownfield sites of a bygone industry. Vacant shipyard halls, quays, railway tracks and administrative buildings form a multi-layered inventory that offers potential for new forms of production and everyday uses as well as for ecological appropriation processes. At the same time, the area is located in the buffer zone of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and, with some of its buildings listed as historical monuments, is an important witness to Lübeck‘s urban and industrial history.With the planned completion of the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link, a central section of the trans-European transport network will be closed, with effects that extend far beyond the transport infrastructure. The expansion of the railway tracks will not only change the natural and residential environment, but also the economic role of the port. Against the backdrop of growing rail freight and passenger traffic and ongoing urban growth, this study examines the potential of the port area as a space for transformation. The aim is to reorganise production, logistics and urban spaces and to open up previously monofunctional structures through functional overlap. The additional infrastructure is not seen as a barrier, but as a structuring element that enables new connections. The design seeks an urban alternative to a purely commercial and logistics location, in which the city, production, mobility and landscape are placed in a new spatial relationship.
