Weidinger, D. (2026). Development of Buffer Layers for CIGS Solar Cells Through Combinatorial Deposition Approach [Diploma Thesis, Technische Universität Wien]. reposiTUm. https://doi.org/10.34726/hss.2026.140790
This study explores the potential of ZnOS buffer layers for utilization in CIGS solar cells. The deposition of thin ZnOS layers is achieved through the use of sputtering, involving the use of a bisected ZnO/ZnS sputter target in conjunction with varying sputter parameters. Subsequent to this, the samples are measured using EDX, FTIR, and XRD devices to ascertain composition, transmittance, bandgap, and crystallinity. As demonstrated in this study, the implementation of ZnOS buffer layers, which vary in these parameters, resulted in a substantial number of outcomes. CIGS solar cells are created utilizing this approach and subsequently measured. It has been demonstrated that this approach has the potential to be utilized in subsequent research endeavors. Specifically, it may be employed to establish a correlation between sputter parameters, buffer layer characteristics, and solar cell performance. This correlation may be particularly useful when optimizing deposition and measurement techniques
