This poster deals with the optimisation and flexibilisation of vehicle and platform concepts in underground railway operations. The central focus of the study is passenger transfer time, which, as a key component of stopping time, significantly influences operational processes. The aim is to identify approaches for increasing the efficiency of urban rapid transit systems through a combination of theoretical analysis, practical observations and simulations. Methodologically, the study is based on a comprehensive literature review, ex- pert interviews with representatives of transport operators, an observational study during train operations, and simulations using the TrainOptimizer® software. Ten different vehicle layouts were modelled, differing in door width and interior design, as well as four station layouts characterised by different access arrange- ments. In addition, passenger behaviour was analysed, in particular the phenomenon of door blockages. The results show that both wider doors and open standing areas in the entrance zone can significantly reduce passenger changeo- ver times. Station layouts with evenly distributed entrances also contribute to a balanced use of the doors. Folding seats proved to be a flexible solution for var- ying between standing and seating areas depending on demand. At the same time, it was found that door blocking presents a practical problem that can significantly delay scheduled operations.
