Weiner, S. (2019).

Digitization and globalization currently keep interdisciplinary, working scientists around the world busy. The questions of particular interest are the effects of technological change on architecture or society and what a sustainable, prototypical design systems requires, because the upcoming technical changes are expected to affect our coexistence in the city. This fact triggers people in fear and worries, but technological change can also be seen as a great opportunity. For the first time in architecture, the metabolism concerned on the topic of future technologies and their impact on architecture. As a result, ideas and systematic design concepts influence architects till this day. The focus of the work is a holistic overview of futures, forecasts and visions. A Composition of scientifically reviewed essays forms an overview of the upcoming developments. The thematic scope outlines infrastructure, energy, mobility, work and production forecasts, as well as aspects of future societal change, alternative forms of housing or health and environmental change. The essence of these predictions for the future results in a systematic design of three basic concepts: „Flexibility, individuality and multifunctionality.“ Divided into a horizontal and vertical structure, the design positions itself as a location-independent possibility of condensing in a future city. The starting point of the system represents a single basic module that allows a spatial displacement and twisting process, which creates a spatial sequences and modular compositions in a variety of configurations. Finally, the elaboration of exaggerated formulated scenarios of the future, proof the theoretically designed system. The three compilations show the changeability in architecture and prove that the future-oriented design concepts, as already in the metabolism, can lead to an architectural experience.
