In times, when food becomes an essential part of a "good life", people more and more want to know where their consumed products come from and what they are made of. Starting from this desire for honest, local ingredients, an urban gardening movement became to life, that usually requires a minimum of a cultivable land for planting fruits and vegetables. But what if Urban Gardening will be integrated in a densely built Wilhelminian-style structure, that has an above-average deficit of green areas, but represents a substantial part of Vienna? How can in that process existing, strict hierarchies of public, semi-public and private spaces be reorganized and transferred into a new functional schema? The aim of this work is a concept for a redesign of an existing neighborhood in the block development in the 16th district of Vienna into a commonly shared structure. Therefore, mounting options for fruits and vegetables shall operate as a linking element, that creates smooth transitions between public and private spheres.
