A higher level of automation of an assembly in the line production is often supposed to cause higher productivity, shorter cycle time and cost reduction. In fact these effects do often occur, incorrect implementation of automation however can lead to contrary results. As a complex and frequently used process in the assembly screwing presents a special challenge. This causes the demand of constant optimizing of these processes. The classic form of the investment statement requests not just the knowledge of a lot of data and assumptions, but also consumes a lot of time. However, important factors, like individual circumstances, are not considered. In this thesis a method is developed, which allows to analyze and evaluate workspaces at an assembly line with low cycle time regarding the potential to automating screwing-processes. The slim calculation causes a low expenditure of time. A clear decision-making process and the identification and integration of specific influence-factors lead to a distinct judgement of the usefulness of an automation. After the explanation of the theoretical background, the thesis deals with the fundamental influence-factors for the usefulness of automating screwing-processes. Built on these factors a methodology of decision-making is developed, which meets all requirements. In order to test the suitability for commonly use of this methodology of decision-making, it is accordingly applied to a real-world example.
