Abstract:

In this thesis, a model of a combined cycle power plant with the simulation software SIMSEN was developed. The model is suitable for both stationary and dynamic calculations, and the implemented control loops allow simulations in the islanded as well as in the interconnected power networks. The IEEE Combined Cycle Power Plant Model was used as a basis for modelling. Due to the fact that it does not cover all the needed functionalities, the model was expanded to include additional structures such as gradient and a power control, and a dead band in the frequency control. Alongside the control loops and the thermodynamic specification, the model features mechanical and electrical components. The electrical components provide the interface for a system, developed as parts of other projects, consisting of a pumped storage and a wind power plant. The implementation of the model in SIMSEN, as well as the determination of the required parameters and data, has been described in detail. The model has been validated in a range of 50-100% of the rated power plant output, providing relatively good results. In conclusion possible improvements are discussed, which could be implemented in future developments.
