Havranek, M. (2014).

The abrasive tool wear represents a big challenge in the calculation and in the construction progress of soilworks. With state of the art testing equipment it is not quite possible to make an exact prediction of the tool wear over the loose rock abrasiveness. Therefore the TU Wien Abrasimeter was created at the Technical University of Vienna. In this thesis several testing values were created with the LCPC testing machine and the TU Wien Abrasimeter. The collected values got compared with actual tool wear values of a pipe jacking project in Vienna. With the testing machines both standardised and modificated test were scored. The tests have shown an increase of the loose rock abrasiveness and also of the tool wear. They also revealed the fact that the size and mineral hardness of the grain is a crucial factor for tool wear. The tool wear of the pipe jacking was beyond the expectations based on the testing values. Therefore it is not possible to make a tool wear prediction just on the base of the loose rock abrasiveness. This is because the tool wear process is very complex and not only dependent on one parameter.
