Abstract:
The objective of this master thesis is the analysis and optimization of the control of the main adjustment of the hot levelling machine in a rolling mill of Dillinger Hütte.
The adjustable top frame of the leveler has three degrees of freedom, but is actuated by four hydraulic cylinders. Controlling the four cylinders individually may induce an undesired torsion deformation of the frame, which persists even in steady-state conditions if the position sensors of the cylinders were imprecisely calibrated.
In this master thesis, a validated mathematical dynamical model of the frame adjustment is developed. It accounts for the non-linear characteristics of the hydraulic system, the friction and the torsion of the frame structure. Based on this model, a controller is developed which dynamically supresses the torsion of the frame. Simulations show that the new controller performs significantly better than the existing controller provided by the machine manufacturer. Moreover, the actual process forces are identified more precisely with the new solution.
