Abstract:
The aim of this PhD thesis is the optimization of an existing two photon lithography setup (M3D) for structuring complex 3D-models and waveguides. Compared to other techniques suitable for producing waveguides, the two photon polymerization (2PP) allows polymerization inside a pre-given volume and can be used to connect optical parts mounted on a printed circuit board (PCB).
In this thesis a procedure for structuring waveguides inside a matrix material and a method for the evaluation of structured waveguides are developed.
The use of a cylindrical-telescope (f1=+ 75 mm and f2 = - 50 mm) implemented in the optical path of the M3D permits the structuring of waveguides with circular cross sections (~20 mym).
The implementation of a new femtosecond laser oscillator, which provides an average power of 400 mW into the M3D setup, allowed a maximum structuring speed of 10000 mym/s to be obtained.
Using the M3D setup, different polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) based materials were structured. The cross sections of the waveguides were analyzed in a microscope. Beside PDMS based materials various formulations of a zirconium based sol-gel material were structured and analyzed. Damping measurements of the 2PP waveguides were obtained with an image based scattered light analysis.
