Abstract:

In this thesis we deal with an optimal dividend proplem on the field of stochastic control theory. Thereby we model the surplus process of a company with a brownian motion with drift, this in particular is a diffusionapproximation of the classic Cramér-Lungberg model from the risk and ruin theory. We consider therefore a model in continuous time, in which premium payments are paid constantly and claims occur randomly. An additional feature in this model is that the surplus earns an investment income at a constant force of interest. The objective now is to find a dividend strategy so as to maximize the expected discounted value of dividend payments. In case of a model without interest the optimality is achieved by using a barrier strategy for unrestricted dividend rate. Using this strategy, all surplus above the barrier is paid as a dividend immediately. The ruin of the company is certain in case of a barrier strategy. Therefore we consider a restriction of the dividend rate bounded by a constant. Under this additional constraint, we show that the optimal dividend strategy is formed by a threshold strategy, in which dividends are paid out at the maximal rate as soon as the surplus exceeds a certain threshold. Whenever the surplus is below the threshold no dividends are paid.
