Abstract:
In this diploma thesis "Low Temperature Co-Fired Ceramics" (LTCC) sintered at different temperatures are characterized. This multilayer glass-ceramic material is typically used for high frequency applications, because of its high robustness and low dielectrical loss.
The effects of the sintering temperature on the electrical properties and microstructure of these LTCC substrates at temperatures up to 800°C are investigated. Therefore leakage currents through the LTCC samples, which were sintered at different temperatures, are measured employing a new build-up computer-aided measurement setup in a modified tube furnace.
The material analyses are done by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) determining the crystalline phases, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for surface analysis and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) for analysing the chemical composition as well as characterization of phase composition.
From the results of the leakage current measurements different activation energies of the samples can be determined and correlated to the crystallographic phases and pores in the LTCC material. Furthermore using the XRD results and TEM analyses the crystallisation process can be described.
