Implementation of a Lévy driven electricity forward model

Abstract

Das Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, einen Überblick der Funktionsweise der Strommärkte und der aktuellen Entwicklungen in der Welt der Strompreismodelle zu bieten, und ein Lévy getriebenes Modell zu entwickeln, mit starker Betonung auf Lenkbarkeit und Geschwindigkeit. Zu diesem Zweck werden die Möglichkeiten des parallelen Rechnens unter Einsatz von Grafikkarten mithilfe der NVIDIA CUDA Technologie untersucht. Wir zeigen, dass sich ein von einem zwei-dimensionalen Lévy Martingale getriebenes stochastisches Forwardpreismodell den Optionspreisen recht gut anpassen lässt, wobei man die Laufzeit durch paralleles Rechnen deutlich verbessern kann.

The main aim of this thesis is to provide an overview of the functioning of electricity markets, current developments in the world of electricity modelling and to develop a Lévy driven electricity forward model, with a strong emphasis on tractability and performance. To achieve this, the possibilities of parallel computing using graphic cards are explored with the help of the NVIDIA CUDA technology. We show that a stochastic forward model driven by a two-dimensional Lévy martingale is able to fit the quoted option prices fairly well, whereby its running time can be improved significantly by introducing parallel processing.
