This master thesis deals with the solution of boundary value problems using the Matlab code bvpsuite developed at the institute for Analysis and Scientific Computing of the Vienna University of Technology. Motivated by an international cooperation with P.M. Lima from the University of Lisbon and M.L. Morgado from the University of Tras-os-Montes e Alto Douro, Portugal, we are concerned with a singular free boundary problem for a second order nonlinear ordinary differential equation, where the differential operator is the degenerate m-Laplacian. Another cooperation with C. Budd from the University of Bath, United Kingdom, deals with the analysis of a self-similar blow-up solution of the generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation, which satisfies a third order nonlinear ordinary differential equation, subject to boundary conditions.
