Abstract:

This thesis deals with automatic rotation of plates with respect to their vertical axis, by means of a roller table with shouldered rolls spinning in opposite direction. At first, a mathematical model of the system consisting of the roller table rolls including its drive motors and the plate is derived. The roller table rolls and the plate are only coupled by friction forces. Because the exact contact points between the rolls and the plate are unknown, an elliptical line of contact is assumed. The unkown parameters of the model are identified based on measurements from an industrial plant and the entire model is validated by further measured data sets. A camera-based estimation algorithm for measuring the current position of the plate is used. Based on these measurements, state observers are developed to estimate non-measurable process variables. The automatic rotation of the plates with respect to their vertical axis is based on a 2-DOF controller, which uses the validated model. Initially an optimization based feed forward controller and the corresponding desired state trajectory is calculated. Then, a feedback tracking controller for the resulting nonlinear time-variant error-system is designed. Finally, the estimator and controller concepts are validated in simulation.
