Die Villa Schapira in Wien, Geschichte und Ausblick auf eine neue Nutzung

Abstract

In dieser Arbeit wird die Villa Schapira aus dem Jahr 1922, ein Gebäude im 18. Wiener Gemeindebezirk Währing behandelt – von der Vergangenheit über die Gegenwart bis hin zu einem Ausblick in die Zukunft. Das charakteristische Bild des mehrgeschossigen Wohnhauses zeichnet sich primär durch die neobarocke Formensprache aus. Der große Garten und angrenzende Park verstärken das pittoreske Aussehen und erzeugen so einen einzigartigen Ort. Einleitend wird die städtebauliche Umgebung betrachtet, die Entwicklung des Bautyps Villenarchitektur kurz erfasst und der Baustil um die Jahrhundertwende beleuchtet. Eine umfassende Bestandsanalyse dient, gemeinsam mit diesem Kontext, als Grundlage für das denkmalpflegerische Konzept. Als zentrale Aufgabe dessen wird im Entwurf eine neue Nutzung in Form einer Kinderbetreuungseinrichtung vorgestellt. Die Arbeit verfolgt damit das Ziel, die kunst- und kulturgeschichtliche Bedeutung aufzuzeigen, um so ein Bewusstsein für das denkmalgeschützte Objekt zu schaffen. Durch diesen Anstoß soll die Villa Schapira eine dauerhafte Nachnutzung erhalten – sei es die vorgeschlagene oder eine andere – welche in wechselseitiger Beziehung mit der bestehenden Bausubstanz ihr Fortbestehen in der Zukunft sichern soll.

In this work, the Villa Schapira from 1922, a building in the 18th district of Vienna called Währing, is described from the past through the present up to an impression of the future. The characteristic image of the multi-storeyed residential building is primarily identified by the Neobaroque architectural design. The large garden and adjacent park are enhancing the picturesque look and creating a unique setting. First of all, the urban environment, the development of the building type Villa and the architectural style around the turn of the century are getting briefly described. This context and the following building analysis provide the basis for the heritage preservation concept. The central task of this concept is to introduce a kindergarten, as the new use of the building. The work thus aspires the intention to demonstrate the Villa Schapira as a building of art and cultural-historical significance and to create awareness for the listed object. Through these considerations, the Villa Schapira is to be given a permanent subsequent use – which could be the proposed one or another – that should ensure its persistence in the future in a mutual relationship with the existing building stock.
